One of the four pilgrimage sites of Char Dham Yatra, the Kedarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a scenic trek 16 km uphill from Gaurikund. Set amidst snow-capped peaks, the temple opens for darshan from 6 AM to 3 PM and from 5 PM to 9 PM.
A picturesque high altitude lake at 14,200 ft surrounded by Himalayan peaks, Vasuki Tal is a moderate to difficult trek for adventure enthusiasts. After a steep climb of six hours, one can enjoy stunning views of Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, and other peaks. Carrying enough water and warm clothes is a must.
A popular stop for trekkers en route to Vasuki Tal, the Bhairavnath Temple enshrines a manifestation of Lord Shiva. Overlooking the Mandakini Valley and surrounded by picturesque meadows, the temple offers scenic views and a peaceful environment.
An ideal spot for camping and rafting, Sonprayag is where the rivers Basuki and Mandakini meet. Surrounded by greenery and magnificent mountains, the scenic town also has a hot water spring where one can take a dip. The best time to visit is from May to June.
If you have more time, you can visit additional places in the region such as Gaurikund, Triyuginarayan Temple, or Deoriatal. For those with limited time, you can skip visiting the Bhairavnath Temple or shorten the Vasuki Tal trek to Kedarnath Helipad. Carry enough water, warm clothes, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
