Doddabetta Peak is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills, standing at 2,637 meters. There is a telescope house on top that lets you have panoramic views of the valley. It is best visited on a clear day because of the mist. Trekking to the peak can be an adventure, but it is not for the faint-hearted or inexperienced. It takes around 30 minutes to hike to the summit. There is a small fee to enter the park area. Wear proper hiking shoes and bring water to stay hydrated.
Pykara has a beautiful waterfall, a river, and a boathouse. The falls are best visited during monsoon seasons. Activities in the area include boating, trekking, and sightseeing. The falls are a short hike from the main parking lot. Bring mosquito repellent to stay comfortable.
Avalanche lake is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains and forests. The lake is around 28 km from Ooty, and the drive itself is an adventure. Activities around the lake include boating, fishing, camping, and trekking. The trek from the eco-park to the lake is worth it. Bring proper trekking boots, water, and a picnic basket.
Needle Rock Point, also known as Soochimalai, is a great place to get panoramic views of the valley. The point is named after a massive rock pillar in the shape of a needle. The adventurous person can trek the point from Gudalur town. The trek is through the forest and is around 3 km long. If you are driving, you can stop at the view-point area and take beautiful photos. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the scenic location.
If you have more time, you can visit the Botanical Garden, Wax Museum, and Ooty Lake. You can also try the Toy Train that takes you around the hill station. If you have less time, you can remove Pykara Falls or Needle Rock Point from the itinerary if you prefer, but they are just as exciting as the other locations.
