Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an ideal way to begin your trip. You'll travel through the beautiful Nilgiris range, past tea gardens, and charming villages. You'll cross over the tallest bridge on the route, and then you'll enter the beautiful hill station of Coonoor. The train stops at a few stations for you to take photos and try some local snacks. The train journey is accompanied by scenic splendor, sparking conversations, and leisurely relaxing atmosphere.
Avalanche Lake is known for its breathtaking scenery which includes a tranquil lake surrounded by forests and mountains, that's a perfect location for those wanting a serene atmosphere. Clear waters and large groves of eucalyptus trees make the air breathtakingly pure. You can hike the surrounding hills, or kayak in the waters of this lake. You can also opt for guided treks with a guide through the jungle and valleys.
Pykara Waterfalls is another scenic location in Ooty. The falls are about 55 meters (180 feet) tall from the top, and its crystal-clear waters flow through amazing landscapes that will leave you in awe. A boat trip on the lake also promises serene views of the waterfall. You can hike down to the base of the falls, take a dip in the cold waters, or just relax and enjoy the beauty of this place while sipping on some hot tea or coffee offered at several shops in this place.
If you have more time, plan a visit to Ooty Botanical Garden, where you can see rare species of plants and flowers. A visit to Doddabetta Peak, the highest point in the Nilgiris range, is also recommended for breathtaking views. You can go horseback riding or mountain biking at Wenlock Downs or shoot some birds at the Galibeedu Shooting Spot which is 15 kilometers away from Ooty. In contrast, if you have less time, consider skipping Pykara Falls.
