In the early morning, head to Varkala Beach for a sunrise surf session. One of the best spots in South India to ride the waves, and the warm waters and consistent swells make it perfect for both beginners and experienced surfers. Spend the rest of the day lounging on the beach or renting a kayak to explore the nearby cliffs and caves. As the sun sets, climb up to the nearby Varkala Cliff, a popular spot among locals and tourists to watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea.
Start the day early and head to Kappil Lake, a serene backwater surrounded by coconut trees and lush greenery. Book a kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding tour to explore the hidden coves and spot some wildlife, such as kingfishers, eagles, and otters. Grab lunch at one of the local eateries nearby and then hike up to the scenic Vellayani Lake viewpoint. End the day with an adrenaline-pumping paragliding session over the stunning coastal landscape.
If you have extra time, consider visiting the Anjengo Fort, a historical Portuguese fort that overlooks the sea, or the Sivagiri Mutt, a pilgrimage center that commemorates the philosopher and social reformer, Sree Narayana Guru. If you have less time, skip Kappil Lake and paragliding and spend more time exploring the beaches and cliffs of Varkala. Remember to carry sun protection, insect repellent, water, and comfortable shoes for hiking.
