Kashmir: A Family Friendly 3-Day Itinerary for August 2023

  1. Day 1: Srinagar
    20-minute drive from Srinagar International Airport

    Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir known for its serene lakes, beautiful gardens, and stunning architecture. Start your day by visiting the Dal Lake and take a relaxing shikara ride. You can also visit the Mughal Gardens built by Emperor Jehangir which features beautiful terraced lawns, cascading fountains, and flowerbeds.

  2. Day 2: Gulmarg
    1.5-hour drive from Srinagar

    Experience the Alpine atmosphere of Gulmarg with fresh pine-scented air and stunning mountain views. This place is known as a skier's paradise in the winter. Take a ride on the highest Gondola cable car in the world to the snow peaked Apharwat Peak and enjoy the scenic views. If you are interested in trekking, you can trek to the beautiful Alpather Lake.

  3. Day 3: Sonamarg
    2.5-hour drive from Gulmarg

    Drive to Sonamarg and experience the picturesque view of the Thajiwas Glacier.  Take a guided pony ride to the meadows of Baltal Valley and Nichnai Pass. You can go for a picnic by the Vishansar Lake which is known for its crystal clear water. You can also go for trout fishing in the nearby Sind River.

Useful tips

If you have more time, visit the beautiful Pahalgam known for its meadows of flowers. If you have less time, you can skip Sonamarg and extend your stay in Gulmarg. It is better to book your accommodation in advance and hire a local guide for better navigation.
