Begin your day with a visit to the Echo Point, a picturesque destination located at an altitude of 600 feet above sea level. This beautiful lake is surrounded by a lush green carpet of tea plantations and hills. The name "Echo Point" comes from the natural echo phenomenon here, where your voice echoes back to you from the surrounding hills. You can enjoy boating on the serene lake, which offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the area.
After enjoying some time at Echo Point, head to the Tata Tea Museum, which is located in the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea. The museum provides a fascinating insight into the history of tea-growing in Munnar. The tea factory is over 100 years old and features antiques, photographs, and machinery used in the early days of tea cultivation. You can also taste various types of tea, watch a tea-processing demo, and purchase different tea flavors from the on-site shop.
Finally, end your day at the Kundala Lake, which offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere. This spot provides stunning views of the valley and the neighboring hills. You can enjoy some boating and horseback riding, or just relax amidst the tranquil surroundings.
On your second day, start with a visit to Mattupetty Dam, situated at an altitude of 1,700 meters. This huge concrete dam controls the water storage for the hydroelectric power plant, and the reservoir it creates is ideal for a scenic boat ride. The lush green tea plantations, dense forests and lofty hills surrounding the dam add to the natural beauty of the place.
Next, head to Top Station, the highest point in Munnar (at an altitude of 1,700 meters) which provides a panoramic view of the magnificent Western Ghats. The view of the valley from here is breathtaking, especially early in the morning with the misty clouds and the sunrise. You can spot the beautiful Neelakurinji flower, which blooms once every 12 years.
Finally, end your trip with a visit to the Rosegardens Tea Factory, where you can see the production of tea close up. The factory is situated in a scenic spot, and you can take a leisurely stroll to see the tea gardens and the tea-making process. You can also purchase different flavors of tea from the on-site shop.
If you have an extra day in Munnar, you can visit other attractions such as Eravikulam National Park, Attukad Waterfalls, or Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. However, if you have less time, you can skip visiting Rosegardens Tea Factory. Also, be sure to pack comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
