Wake up early morning around 3:30 am to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Kanchenjunga and the Himalayan range from the Tiger Hill. The drive to the hilltop is scenic and takes around 45 minutes. On the way back, visit the Ghoom Monastery, the oldest Tibetan Monastery in Darjeeling, which houses a 15-foot high statue of Maitreya Buddha.
Take a ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, famously known as the "Toy Train" and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The train runs from Darjeeling to Ghoom and returns. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the lush tea plantations, waterfalls, and the mountainside during the 2-hour journey.
Visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, home to the rare and endangered species like the Red Panda, Snow Leopard, and the Himalayan Wolf. The zoo also has a breeding centre for the Red Panda and the Snow Leopard. The zoo is closed on Thursdays.
Take a day trip to the Singalila National Park and experience the untouched beauty of the Eastern Himalayas. It is home to numerous species of birds, animals, and plants. The trek to Sandakphu, the highest peak in West Bengal, starts from the park. The park entry is closed from mid-June to mid-September.
Visit the Peace Pagoda, a magnificent Buddhist stupa, built to promote world peace. It offers a panoramic view of the majestic Kanchenjunga and the valley below. The pagoda also has small shops selling souvenirs and religious items.
