Start your day with a visit to Abbey Falls, located 20 minutes from Madikeri town. The waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery and coffee plantations, making it an ideal location for nature lovers. You can take a short hike to reach the falls and enjoy the stunning views. However, swimming is not allowed due to strong currents. There are also small shops nearby where you can buy souvenirs and snacks.
After exploring Abbey Falls, visit Talakaveri, the source of the Kaveri River. It is considered a holy place and is surrounded by hills and scenic views. You can climb the Brahmagiri Peak to get a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and a small pond where you can take a dip. Don't forget to try the local food at the nearby restaurants.
On day two, visit the Dubare Elephant Camp, where you can spend time with elephants and learn about their daily activities. You can observe them being bathed, fed, and trained by the mahouts (elephant handlers). You can also take a coracle ride on the Kaveri River and admire the stunning scenery. However, it is advisable to book your tickets in advance as the camp gets crowded during peak season.
After visiting the Dubare Elephant Camp, head to Nisargadhama, a beautiful island surrounded by the Cauvery River. You can take a walk through the bamboo groves and enjoy the scenic beauty. You can also indulge in adventure sports like zip-lining, boating, and elephant rides. There are also cottages for those who wish to stay overnight.
