Nainital Lake is a natural freshwater lake in the heart of Nainital. It is surrounded by panoramic views of mountains and trees, and is perfect for boating and strolling around. The lake is also known as 'Tririshi Sarovar' and according to Hindu mythology, it was formed after the eye of Lord Shiva's wife, Sati, fell into the lake.
Tiffin Top is a hilltop viewpoint located in Ayarpatta Hill, which offers breathtaking views of Nainital. The viewpoint is also known as Dorothy's Seat and it was built by an English artist Dorothy Kellet in memory of her husband. Along with a picnic spot, one can also go for trekking and horse riding in the area.
Snow Viewpoint is another sightseer spot from where one can view the majestic Himalayas. A cable car ride is available to reach the spot, which makes it a thrilling experience.
Sariyatal is a small but serene lake located in the midst of lush green forests. Apart from boating, one can enjoy bird watching and nature photography in the area.
Naini Peak is the highest peak in Nainital and offers panoramic views of the surrounding natural beauty. Trekking is the only way to reach the top and it is a moderately difficult trail.
Private taxis and shared cabs are easily available in Nainital for commuting within the city. Cost for a private taxi from Kathgodam railway station to Nainital is 1200-1500 INR, and it takes around 45 minutes to reach.
If you have more time, you can visit the Eco Cave Gardens, Hanuman Garhi, and St. John in the Wilderness Church. Alternatively, if you have less time, you can skip Tiffin Top and Snow Viewpoint and spend more time at Nainital Lake and Sariyatal.
Pantnagar Airport (PGH) is the nearest airport to Nainital, and it is located approximately 70 kilometres away. Private taxis and shared cabs are easily available from the airport to Nainital. Alternatively, one can take a cab from the airport to Haldwani railway station and then take a train to Kathgodam railway station, which is only 34 km away from Nainital.
