4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 45 minutes (35.4 miles) from Calicut International Airport

    Get ready for an adventure-packed day as you trek to the top of Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek is moderate and takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete. Along the way, you'll pass through lush green forests, a heart-shaped lake, and breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys. At the top, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the entire Wayanad district. Remember to carry enough water and snacks for the trek.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam & Meenmutty Falls
    1 hour 10 minutes (22.9 miles) from Chembra Peak

    Visit one of the largest earthen dams in India, the Banasura Sagar Dam. Enjoy a boat ride on the calm waters of the dam and take in the scenic views. Next, head to the Meenmutty Falls, a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. The trek to the falls is moderate and takes around 45 minutes to an hour. Take a refreshing dip in the natural pool at the base of the waterfall.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple & Kuruva Island
    1 hour 50 minutes (34.3 miles) from Meenmutty Falls

    Start your day with a visit to the ancient Thirunelli Temple, situated amidst the Brahmagiri hills. The temple is known for its intricate architecture and is believed to be over 3000 years old. Afterward, head to Kuruva Island, a river delta on the Kabini River. Explore the lush green forests and bamboo groves on a raft or trek along the trails. The island is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including rare bird species.

  4. Day 4: Edakkal Caves & Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 30 minutes (30.2 miles) from Kuruva Island

    Explore the ancient Edakkal Caves, believed to be over 8000 years old, and see the inscriptions left by our ancestors. The caves are situated atop Ambukuthi Hills and require a moderate trek of around 45 minutes. Afterward, head to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including elephants, tigers, leopards, and rare bird species. Enjoy a Jeep Safari through the sanctuary and spot some wildlife in their natural habitat.
