Two-Day Itinerary for Wayanad in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    45 minutes (15 miles) from Kalpetta

    Explore the ancient Edakkal Caves that are home to fascinating stone carvings and pictorial writings dating back to the Neolithic Age. The caves offer a unique trekking experience through a steep slope and lush greenery. Visitors can enjoy the scenic view of Wayanad from the top of the hill. The caves are open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm with an entry fee of INR 40 per person.

  2. Day 1: Banasura Sagar Dam
    45 minutes (20 miles) from Edakkal Caves

    Visit the largest earth dam in India, the Banasura Sagar Dam, surrounded by the majestic Banasura Hills. Take a leisurely stroll along the dam and enjoy the scenic beauty of the reservoir and surrounding hills. The dam also offers boating services to the visitors. The dam is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with a nominal entry fee of INR 10 per person.

  3. Day 1: Pookode Lake
    35 minutes (12 miles) from Banasura Sagar Dam

    Take a dip in the serene and picturesque Pookode Lake, surrounded by lush green forests. The lake offers boating services and a children's park. Visitors can also enjoy a short trekking trail around the lake and spot some exotic wildlife. The lake is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with an entry fee of INR 10 per person.

  4. Day 2: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
    40 minutes (16 miles) from Kalpetta

    Explore the rich flora and fauna of Wayanad at the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Spot some of the rare and endangered species of animals such as tigers, elephants, leopards, and deer. Visitors can also enjoy an adventurous trek through the dense forests and hills. The sanctuary is open from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm with an entry fee of INR 20 per person.

  5. Day 2: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (12 miles) from Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

    Trek up to the highest peak in Wayanad, the Chembra Peak, and enjoy the spectacular view of the lush green forests and hills. Visitors need to obtain permission from the forest department before starting the trek. Trekking to the top and back takes around 5-6 hours. The forest department opens at 7:00 am and closes at 2:00 pm. The entry fee is INR 500 for a group of 10 people.
