4-Day Wayanad Nature Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
1 hour (10.3 miles) from Kalpetta

Start your trip with a visit to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the peak is a 4km journey that takes around 3-4 hours, where you will witness the beautiful tea plantations and scenic views. One of the most stunning things about this peak is its heart-shaped lake which lies en route to the peak. The trek is a bit challenging, but the view of the surrounding hills and the valley from the top is stunning enough to make it worth the effort. Remember to bring comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen!

  2. Day 2: Edakkal Caves
1 hour 30 minutes (25.4 miles) from Chembra Peak

Head to the Edakkal Caves to explore one of the most ancient human settlements in Wayanad. The cave paintings, stone age carvings, and ancient inscriptions are a testimony to the rich history of the place. It's a bit of a trek up to the cave, but the stunning view from the top is worth it. The best time to visit is early in the morning, as it can get crowded later in the day. Don't forget to bring a camera and comfortable shoes.

  3. Day 3: Banasura Sagar Dam
1 hour 15 minutes (29.2 miles) from Edakkal Caves

Next, visit Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. The dam is surrounded by lush green hills and is an ideal location for a leisurely walk or a scenic picnic. You can also opt for a speedboat ride, which offers a stunning view of the dam and the surrounding hills. The place is a perfect blend of nature and adventure, and it's a must-visit for those who love nature.

  4. Day 4: Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary
1 hour 10 minutes (29.7 miles) from Banasura Sagar Dam

End your trip with a visit to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, a natural habitat for a variety of wildlife species. The sanctuary is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, and many other endangered species. The best way to explore the sanctuary is by taking a jeep safari, which will take you through the dense forests and grasslands, allowing you to witness the beauty of nature up close. The sanctuary is open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, so plan your visit accordingly.
