Pookode Lake is a freshwater lake nestled in the Western Ghats. Surrounded by lush greenery and hills, it’s a perfect spot for a family picnic. Take a paddleboat ride or stroll along the lake’s walking path. Keep an eye out for the resident monkeys and fish in the lake. The lake also has a children’s park with swings and slides.
Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area inhabited by tigers, elephants, and leopards. The sanctuary offers jeep safaris to explore the wildlife and the surrounding landscape. The best time to catch a glimpse of the animals is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. If you’re lucky, you might spot a herd of wild elephants.
Edakkal Caves are two natural caves located on top of Ambukutty Mala. The caves’ walls are adorned with prehistoric petroglyphs, which are believed to date back to over 3000 BC. You can reach the caves by trekking up the hill. The trek takes around 45 minutes and offers stunning views of the landscape. The caves are open to visitors from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earthen dam in India and is surrounded by the Banasura hills. You can take a boat ride around the dam and enjoy the scenic views of the hills. There’s also a small park near the dam with swings and slides for children. The dam is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
