Start your day at the Ooty Botanical Gardens, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ooty. Spread over 22 hectares, the gardens are home to rare plants, ferns, and trees. You can take a leisurely stroll along the winding paths and enjoy the beautiful flowers and greenery. The gardens are especially popular during the summer flower show in June, where you can see a variety of flowers including roses, carnations, and lilies.
After the gardens, head to Doddabetta Peak, the highest peak in the Nilgiri Mountains. At an altitude of 2,637 meters, the view from the peak is breathtaking. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Mysore plateau. There is a telescope house at the peak where you can get a closer look at the surrounding landscape. The peak also has a small eatery where you can grab a quick bite.
Start your second day at Ooty Lake, a man-made lake surrounded by beautiful greenery. You can take a boat ride on the lake and enjoy the scenic views. There are also other activities such as horse riding and cycling available near the lake. Do note that the lake can get crowded during peak tourist season, so plan accordingly.
End your day with a trip to Pykara Falls, located in the Pykara village. The falls are surrounded by dense forest and are a popular picnic spot. You can take a short hike to the falls and enjoy the cool misty breeze. There is also a boathouse near the falls where you can take a boat ride in the Pykara Lake.
Other local attractions you may want to consider include the Government Rose Garden, Thread Garden, and St. Stephen's Church. To maximize your fun, try the local cuisine such as the famous Ooty varkey and homemade chocolates. If you have more time, take a toy train ride from Ooty to Coonoor for some spectacular views of the Nilgiri Mountains. Don't forget to bring warm clothing as the evenings can get chilly.
