  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
23 minutes (11.9 km) from Kalpetta

Explore the ancient Edakkal Caves, which feature rock carvings dating back to the Neolithic era. You'll have to climb up a steep hill to reach the caves, but the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape are worth the effort. Inside the caves, you'll see intricate carvings of animals, human figures, and symbols. Don't miss the chance to take a guided tour, which will give you more information about the history and archaeology of the site.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam

Visit Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. The dam is set against a scenic backdrop of hills and forests, and there are plenty of opportunities for boating and hiking in the area. Take a boat ride on the lake and enjoy the tranquil surroundings, or hike up to the nearby Banasura Hill for stunning views of the dam and the surrounding landscape. There are also several small restaurants and cafes around the dam where you can enjoy a meal or a snack.

  3. Day 3: Meenmutty Waterfalls

The hike can be a bit challenging, but the stunning views and the refreshing cool of the falls make it all worthwhile. You can even take a dip in the pools at the base of the falls. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water and snacks for the hike.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, and other wildlife. You can also visit the Pookode Lake, a scenic freshwater lake surrounded by forested hills. To maximize your fun, try to plan your trip during the cooler months of October to February, when the weather is more pleasant. And don't forget to try some of the local cuisine, such as appam with stew or puttu with kadala curry.
