Two-Day Nature Itinerary in Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
17 minutes (6.7 miles) from Kalpetta

Morning: Start your first day in Wayanad by hiking Chembra Peak, the highest peak in the region at 2,100 meters above sea level. The trek to the top takes around 3 hours, but the stunning panoramic views of Wayanad's lush green landscape from the summit are worth the effort. Don't forget to pack water and snacks for the hike.

Afternoon: After the hike, head to Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake about 48 minutes (12.6 miles) away. Enjoy a peaceful boat ride or a leisurely walk around the lake to spot different species of birds and fish.

Evening: End your first day by visiting the Banasura Sagar Dam, about 1 hour (22.8 miles) away. This earthen dam is the largest in India and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. You can also take a speed boat or pedal boat ride on the dam's reservoir.

  2. Day 2: Thusharagiri Waterfalls
1 hour 13 minutes (34.4 miles) from Banasura Sagar Dam

Morning: Begin your second day by visiting Thusharagiri Waterfalls, located about 1 hour and 13 minutes (34.4 miles) away. This waterfall is unique as it is the meeting point of three different streams, which create a mesmerizing sight. You can swim in the natural pool at the bottom of the falls or hike along the trails to enjoy the greenery.

Afternoon: After the waterfall, head to the Edakkal Caves, about 1 hour and 11 minutes (31.4 miles) away. The caves contain ancient petroglyphs, or rock carvings, that are over 8,000 years old. The hike up to the cave entrance takes around 30 minutes, but the beautiful views of the Western Ghats from the top make it worth it.

Evening: End your trip with a visit to the Kuruva Island, which is about an hour and 10 minutes (31.8 miles) away. This uninhabited island is situated in the middle of the Kabini River and is known for its diverse flora and fauna, especially its different species of birds and butterflies. You can take a boat ride or explore the island on foot.
