Transportation

To travel around Puerto Rico, renting a car is the most convenient option since public transportation is limited. The roads are safe, and the GPS works well. Expect to pay around $45-60 per day for a rental. It's a good idea to reserve in advance, especially during high season. Also, consider taking a ferry to reach Culebra Island.

Useful Tips

If you have more time, add a day trip to the colorful city of Ponce, which is around 1.5 hours (75 miles) from San Juan. It boasts museums, art galleries, and restaurants. You can also go to Rio Camuy Cave Park to explore deep caves and underground rivers. If you have less time, shorten your beach and relaxation time, and focus on exploring the city and its historic sites. Don't forget to pack bug spray and sunscreen.

Airports

Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) is the main airport in Puerto Rico, located in San Juan. It's around 5 miles from the city center, and there are several transportation options such as taxis, buses, and car rentals. It's the busiest airport on the island, with direct flights from major cities in the US, Europe, and South America.
