3-Day Cultural Immersion Itinerary in Mathura - December 2023

  1. Day 1: Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple
10 minutes (2.3 km) from Mathura Junction Railway Station

Start your day by visiting the sacred Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The temple complex consists of multiple temples, including the main temple, where you can see the prison cell where Lord Krishna was born. You can participate in the morning aarti (prayer) and offer your prayers to Lord Krishna. Afterward, explore the nearby markets to indulge in some shopping for handicrafts and souvenirs. In the evening, visit the temple again to witness the grand aarti and light show.

  2. Day 2: Dwarkadhish Temple and Vishram Ghat
15 minutes (3.9 km) from Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple

Begin your day by visiting the historic Dwarkadhish Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna and built in the 1800s. The temple is famous for its stunning architecture and intricate carvings. Afterward, head over to the nearby Vishram Ghat, one of the most famous ghats in Mathura, located on the banks of the Yamuna river. Take a holy dip in the river and witness the Aarti ceremony at sunset. You can also take a boat ride in the river to enjoy the scenic beauty.

  3. Day 3: Govardhan Hill and Radha Kund
1 hour 20 minutes (22.5 km) from Vishram Ghat

On your last day, take a trip to Govardhan Hill, which holds great significance in Hindu mythology. The hill is believed to be held on the finger by Lord Krishna to protect the villagers from heavy rain. You can take a parikrama (circumambulation) of the hill, which is about 21 km long. Afterward, head over to Radha Kund, a sacred pond believed to be created by Lord Krishna for Radha. Take a dip in the holy waters and offer your prayers at the nearby Radha-Govinda Temple. In the evening, return to Mathura and indulge in some delicious local food.
