3-Day Wayanad Itinerary for June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (11.2 miles) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your trip by trekking the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad district. The trek gives you a 360-degree view of the beautiful surrounding hills and valleys. Carry a packed lunch and water. (Closed on Mondays)

    Afternoon: After the trek, head to Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by lush green forests. You can enjoy boating in the lake or visit the aquarium and the children's park. (Open from 9 am to 5 pm)

    Evening: End your day by visiting Lakkidi Viewpoint, one of the highest viewpoints in Wayanad. You can see the beautiful valley and the winding roads from the top. (Open all day)

  2. Day 2: Edakkal Caves
    1 hour (23.3 miles) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your day by visiting Edakkal Caves, a series of natural caves that contain prehistoric carvings. The trek to the caves is a bit challenging, but the view from the top is worth it. (Closed on Mondays)

    Afternoon: After the caves, head to Soochipara Falls, a beautiful waterfall that is surrounded by dense forests. You can swim in the natural pool at the bottom of the falls or enjoy a picnic. (Open from 9 am to 5 pm)

  3. Day 3: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to several endangered and rare species of animals and birds. You can take a jeep safari to explore the sanctuary and spot animals like elephants, tigers, and leopards. (Closed on Mondays)

    Afternoon: After the sanctuary, head to the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple located in the middle of the Brahmagiri hills. You can take a dip in the Papanasini river, which is believed to wash away all sins. (Open from 5 am to 12 pm, and 5 pm to 8 pm)

    Evening: End your day by visiting the Kuruva Island, a group of uninhabited islands on the Kabini river. You can enjoy a boat ride and witness the exotic flora and fauna. (Closed during the monsoon season from June to September)
