Three Days in Coorg on a Shoestring Budget in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Abbey Falls
    20 minutes (10.3 km) from Madikeri

    In the morning, head over to the stunning Abbey Falls. A beautiful waterfall surrounded by lush greenery, this is a perfect spot for nature lovers. Take a refreshing dip in the pool below, go for a walk through the spice plantations, and enjoy the sound of the waterfall. In the afternoon, visit the Omkareshwara Temple, a stunning example of Hindu and Islamic architecture. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is surrounded by a peaceful water body. In the evening, head over to Raja's Seat, a beautiful garden with a mesmerizing view of the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Dubare Elephant Camp
    1 hour 15 minutes (40.5 km) from Madikeri

    In the morning, head over to Dubare Elephant Camp, an elephant training camp situated on the banks of the river Cauvery. You can watch the elephants being bathed and fed, and even take an elephant ride. In the afternoon, visit the Namdroling Monastery, the largest teaching center of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism outside of Tibet. This monastery is famous for its 60-foot golden statues of Guru Padmasambhava, Buddha, and Amitayus. In the evening, go for a walk through the coffee plantations and watch the sunset from Chiklihole Reservoir.

  3. Day 3: Talakaveri
    1 hour 30 minutes (50 km) from Madikeri

    In the morning, head over to Talakaveri, the origin of the river Cauvery. This is a beautiful location situated on the Brahmagiri hills, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, visit the Madikeri Fort, an ancient fort built by Mudduraja in the 17th century. The fort houses a temple, a chapel, a prison, and a museum. In the evening, go for a walk through the Raja's Tomb, the resting place of the Kodava kings.

If you have more time in Coorg, you can visit the Iruppu Falls, Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagarhole National Park, and the Tibetan Golden Temple.
