Exploring Wayanad in 3 days

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    30 minutes (10.5 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit the Edakkal Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These caves are famous for their ancient rock carvings, and it takes around 45 minutes to climb up to the cave entrance. Enjoy the scenic views of Wayanad from the top. In the afternoon, head to Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by forests. You can go boating, and there are plenty of food stalls around the lake to grab some snacks. In the evening, visit the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. It takes around two hours to reach the top, and the trek is moderate in difficulty. You can camp overnight on the peak if you want to experience the view of the sunrise.

  2. Day 2: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

    Spend the morning at the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including elephants, tigers, and leopards. Go on a safari to see these animals up close. In the afternoon, visit the Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by lush green forests. It takes around 45 minutes to reach the falls by foot. In the evening, visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is surrounded by mountains and forests and is a great place to experience the local culture.

  3. Day 3: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 20 minutes (29.5 miles) from Kalpetta

    Spend the morning at the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. You can go boating or trek to the nearby hills to enjoy the scenic beauty. In the afternoon, visit the Chain Tree, a famous landmark in Wayanad. According to local legend, a British engineer was killed by a tribal man, and his spirit haunted the tree. The tree is now covered in chains to prevent the spirit from escaping. In the evening, visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a wide variety of animals, including elephants, tigers, and leopards. Go on a safari to see these animals up close.
