4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Varkala in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Varkala Beach
    10 minutes (1.3 miles) from Varkala Sivagiri railway station

    In the morning, hit the waves and go surfing at Varkala Beach. The beach is well-known for its excellent surfing conditions and is ideal for beginners and experts alike. Afterward, grab a not-to-be-missed homemade pizza at Darjeeling Café. In the afternoon, explore the Sivagiri Mutt, an important Hindu pilgrimage center. You'll have an excellent view of the sea from the Mutt's hilltop location. In the evening, head to the Janardanaswamy Temple and witness the evening pooja (prayer) and the unique tradition of the temple elephants being led down to the beach for a dip in the sea.

  2. Day 2: Kappil Beach
    20 minutes (5.8 miles) from Varkala Beach

    Begin the day with a thrilling morning adventure by taking a trek over the majestic North Cliff to reach the adjacent Thiruvambadi Beach. Experience a scenic walk through the coconut groves and lush green valleys. Next, head to Kappil Beach where the sea meets the backwaters. Take a boat ride in the backwaters and enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the area. In the evening, savor the delicious seafood at the Clafouti Beach Resort.

  3. Day 3: Anjengo Fort
    30 minutes (8.5 miles) from Kappil Beach

    Start the day by visiting the beautiful Varkala Tunnel, a historical landmark that connects the North and South Cliff of Varkala. Then, visit the Anjengo Fort, an ancient Dutch fort, which is now a historical monument. The fort offers spectacular views of the sea.   4. Day 4: Ponnumthuruthu Island
