While Milan has a great public transportation system, we recommend renting a car for your trip to Lake Como. This will give you more flexibility and allow you to explore the region at your own pace. Expect to pay around €50 per day for car rental and the drive to the lake takes around 1 hour.
If you have more time in Milan, we recommend visiting the trendy district of Porta Romana or taking a day trip to the charming town of Bergamo. For those with less time, consider skipping the trip to Lake Como and spending an extra day exploring Milan's top attractions.
There are two airports in Milan - the Malpensa Airport (MXP) and the Linate Airport (LIN). Malpensa is the larger of the two airports and is located approximately 30 miles northwest of the city center. Linate is smaller and closer to the city center, located just 5 miles away. Both airports have a variety of transportation options to get to the city including buses, taxis, and rental cars.
