3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (9.5 miles) from Kalpetta
    Morning: Start the day early with a trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The 4.5km trek takes about 3-4 hours and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Don't forget to carry enough water and snacks for the trek.
    Afternoon: Head to Pookode Lake, a serene freshwater lake surrounded by thick forests. Enjoy a boat ride or simply relax by the lake. The lake also has a children's park and an aquarium.
    Evening: End the day with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, famous for their prehistoric carvings and paintings. The caves are accessible after a short trek and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour (21 miles) from Kalpetta
    Morning: Start the day with a visit to Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India. Enjoy a boat ride on the reservoir or trek to the nearby hills for panoramic views of the dam and the surrounding forests.
    Afternoon: Head to Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, leopards, tigers and deer. Take a jeep safari to explore the sanctuary or go for a nature walk with a local guide.
    Evening: End the day with a visit to Kuruvadweep, a group of small islands in the middle of the Kabini River. The islands are accessible only by boat and offer a peaceful retreat amidst dense forests.
  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple
    1 hour 20 minutes (34 miles) from Kalpetta
    Morning: Start the day with a visit to Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is surrounded by thick forests and offers a peaceful retreat for meditation and prayer.
    Afternoon: Head to Soochipara Waterfalls, a beautiful three-tiered waterfall in the midst of lush green forests. Take a dip in the pool or go for a short trek to the top of the falls for a panoramic view of the surroundings.
    Evening: End the day with a visit to the Lakkidi View Point, the highest point in Wayanad. Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys and watch the sunset over the Western Ghats.

If you have more time, consider visiting the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to tigers, leopards and other wildlife.
