3-Day Wayanad Honeymoon Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (9.7 km) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your honeymoon with a trek to the highest peak in Wayanad, Chembra. The heart-shaped lake at the top is a popular spot for couples. The trek is moderate and takes around 3 hours one way. Don't forget to carry water and snacks.

    Afternoon: Have lunch at the base of the peak and then drive to Pookode Lake, a scenic freshwater lake surrounded by forests. Enjoy a paddleboat ride or a walk around the lake.

    Evening: Visit the Edakkal Caves, famous for its prehistoric cave paintings. The caves are a 1.5 km trek from the parking area through a scenic trail. The caves close by 5 pm, so plan accordingly.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam and Meenmutty Waterfalls
    1.5 hours (45 km) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Drive to Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. Enjoy a speedboat ride or a walk around the dam and take in the scenic views of the surrounding mountains.

    Afternoon: Have lunch at the dam and then head to Meenmutty Waterfalls, one of the largest waterfalls in Wayanad. The 2 km trek to the waterfall is through a dense forest, so wear comfortable shoes and carry water.

    Evening: Visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and spot some of the exotic animals of Wayanad such as elephants, tigers, and deer. The sanctuary is closed on weekends, so plan accordingly.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple and Kuruva Island
    2 hours (75 km) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Drive to Thirunelli Temple, one of the oldest temples in Kerala, nestled in the Brahmagiri hills. Take a dip in the nearby Papanasini River, believed to wash away sins.

    Afternoon: Have lunch at the temple and then head to Kuruva Island, a river delta formed by the Kabini river. The island is a natural paradise, with dense forests, bamboo groves, and exotic birds.

    Evening: Spend your last evening in Wayanad at the Lakkidi View Point, which offers a panoramic view of the entire district. The view point closes by 5 pm, so plan accordingly.
