Exploring Wayanad for Nature Lovers

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 20 minutes (27.9 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, start your day with a trek to the highest peak in Wayanad, Chembra Peak. The trek takes around 3-4 hours and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, waterfalls and the heart-shaped lake on the way. Carry enough water and food for the trek. In the afternoon, visit Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills. You can go boating, trekking or just relax by the lake. In the evening, visit Meenmutty Falls, a three-tiered waterfall cascading from a height of 300m. The trek to the falls is moderate and takes around 45 minutes from the parking area.

  2. Day 2: Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 15 minutes (29.4 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day early with a visit to Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, which is rich in flora and fauna. You can take a jeep safari to explore the sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to a variety of animals such as elephants, tigers, leopards, jungle cats and many others. In the afternoon, visit Kuruva Island, a river delta formed by the Kabini river. The island is rich in biodiversity and offers various activities such as bamboo rafting, trekking and bird watching. In the evening, visit Banasura Sagar Dam and enjoy the breathtaking view of the dam, surrounded by the Banasura hills.

  3. Day 3: Edakkal Caves
    1 hour 20 minutes (28.9 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient rock art, carvings and paintings. The trek to the caves is a bit steep and takes around 45 minutes from the parking area. In the afternoon, visit Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall located in the dense forest. You can trek to the falls and take a dip in the pool below. In the evening, visit Lakkidi Viewpoint, a scenic spot with a panoramic view of the hills and valleys of Wayanad.
