4-Day Nature Itinerary for Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (7.5 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, trek up to the Chembra Peak which is the highest peak in Wayanad. Enjoy the lush green surroundings with beautiful views of the town. In the afternoon, head to the Pookode Lake which is surrounded by forests and hills. Take a boat ride and spot some fishes in the crystal clear water. In the evening, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls and take a dip in the refreshing water.

  2. Day 2: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour (22 miles) from Kalpetta

    Wake up early and head to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary to go on a jungle safari. Observe the flora and fauna of the region including elephants, tigers, deer and monkeys. In the afternoon, visit the Edakkal Caves to admire the ancient rock art. In the evening, unwind at the Banasura Sagar Dam and enjoy the view of the surrounding hills.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple
    1 hour 20 minutes (36 miles) from Kalpetta

    Begin the day by visiting the Thirunelli Temple which is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Later, visit the Brahmagiri Peak which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding forests. In the afternoon, explore the Kuruva Island which is a group of small islands in the Kabini River. Witness some of the rarest species of birds and butterflies. In the evening, head back to the hotel and relax.

  4. Day 4: Meenmutty Falls
    1 hour 30 minutes (39 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start the day by visiting the Meenmutty Falls which is a three-tiered waterfall cascading down from a height of 300 meters. Trek to the waterfall and take a dip in the refreshing water. In the afternoon, visit the Chain Tree which is a banyan tree with an interesting legend. Later, head to the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary to spot some exotic birds. In the evening, bid goodbye to Wayanad and head back home.

Do not forget to try the local cuisine like the spicy Malabar Biryani, Vellayappam, Appam with stew, and the Payasam. You can also consider visiting the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, the Bamboo Forests, and the Neelimala Viewpoint.
