Kedarnath 4-Day Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    10 minutes (0.5 km) from Kedarnath

    The Kedarnath Temple, located at the height of 3,583 meters, is one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism. Start your day early to beat the crowds and take a dip in the holy Mandakini river before visiting the temple. Spend the morning exploring the beautiful architecture of the temple and learning about its history. In the afternoon, take a 30-minute hike to the Gandhi Sarovar Lake for breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Relax in the evening and enjoy a hot cup of tea before retiring to bed.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
    1 hour 40 minutes (8.9 km) from Kedarnath

    Embark on a 6 km trek to the stunning Vasuki Tal lake, situated at an altitude of 4,150 meters, surrounded by snow-capped peaks. This trek is a bit challenging, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry enough water. Spend the morning trekking and admiring the natural beauty of the area. Take a packed lunch and enjoy it by the lake. In the afternoon, trek back to Kedarnath and visit the Bhairavnath Temple. Spend the evening relaxing at your accommodation.

  3. Day 3: Sonprayag
    1 hour 20 minutes (21 km) from Kedarnath

    Head to Sonprayag for a day trip to visit the Triyuginarayan Temple and the town's natural hot water spring. The temple is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. Spend the morning exploring the temple and its surroundings before taking a dip in the hot spring. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Guptkashi town for some souvenir shopping. Return to Kedarnath in the evening.

  4. Day 4: Chandrashila Trek
    2 hours (36.8 km) from Kedarnath

    Take a day trip to Chopta for a trek to the Chandrashila peak, located at an altitude of 3,600 meters. The trek is around 5 km long and takes around 2-3 hours. Enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas from the top. Have a packed lunch and enjoy it with the view. In the evening, head back to Kedarnath and enjoy local cuisine for your last dinner in the town.

Other local attractions worth considering include the Agastyamuni Temple, Phata Village, and the Mandakini Valley. If you have more time, you can also plan a visit to Badrinath, which is located around 3 hours from Kedarnath.
