Three Days of City Experiences in Kolkata, July 2023

  1. Day 1: Victoria Memorial Hall

    In the morning, explore the iconic Victoria Memorial Hall, a stunning white marble building commemorating Queen Victoria. In the afternoon, stroll through the Maidan, a vast urban park where locals gather to play cricket, football and other sports.   2. Day 2: Howrah Bridge
    30 minutes (8.2 km) from Victoria Memorial Hall

    In the morning, take a boat ride along the Hooghly River, a distributary of the Ganges River, and marvel at the Howrah Bridge, a cantilever bridge that is one of the busiest in the world. In the afternoon, visit the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Kali, located on the banks of the Hooghly River. End the day with a visit to the St. Paul's Cathedral, a beautiful Anglican cathedral built in Gothic Revival style.

  3. Day 3: Park Street
    25 minutes (7.9 km) from Howrah Bridge

    In the morning, explore the lively Park Street, a bustling thoroughfare dotted with shops, restaurants and bars. In the afternoon, visit the Marble Palace, a nineteenth-century mansion filled with European and Indian art. End the day with a visit to the Kalighat Kali Temple, one of the holiest Hindu shrines in Kolkata.

If you have time, consider taking a side trip to the Sunderbans, a vast mangrove forest and biosphere reserve located south of Kolkata. You can also check out the Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity, the headquarters of the charitable organization founded by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Mother Teresa.
