Seven Days in Amritsar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Golden Temple
    15 minutes (3.5 km) from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport

    In the morning, visit the breathtaking Golden Temple, the most important religious site in the Sikh religion. In the afternoon, try some delicious langar (free meal) at the temple and learn about Sikh culture and traditions. In the evening, watch the beautiful Palki Sahib ceremony where the holy book Guru Granth Sahib is carried to its resting place for the night.

  2. Day 2: Jallianwala Bagh and Partition Museum
    5 minutes (1.2 km) from Golden Temple

    In the morning, visit the Jallianwala Bagh, a public garden and memorial of the 1919 Amritsar massacre. In the afternoon, explore the Partition Museum and learn about India's partition in 1947. In the evening, take a stroll in the nearby Hall Bazaar and try some local street food.

  3. Day 3: Durgiana Temple and Ram Bagh Gardens
    20 minutes (4.4 km) from Jallianwala Bagh

    In the morning, visit the Durgiana Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Durga. In the afternoon, take a relaxing walk in the beautiful Ram Bagh Gardens, built by the Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh. In the evening, attend the Beating Retreat ceremony at the Wagah border, a unique military ceremony performed at the India-Pakistan border.

  4. Day 4: Gobindgarh Fort and Khair-ud-Din Masjid
    25 minutes (5.6 km) from Ram Bagh Gardens

    In the morning, explore the historic Gobindgarh Fort, built by the Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh. In the afternoon, visit the Khair-ud-Din Masjid, a beautiful mosque built by the Muslim governor of Lahore. In the evening, take a stroll in the nearby Lawrence Road and try some local Punjabi cuisine.

  5. Day 5: Mata Lal Devi Mandir and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum
    25 minutes (6.1 km) from Khair-ud-Din Masjid

    In the morning, visit the Mata Lal Devi Mandir, a unique temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga and her sister Katyayani. In the afternoon, learn about the life and times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire, at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum. In the evening, take a stroll in the nearby Market Area and shop for some local handicrafts and souvenirs.

  6. Day 6: Tarn Taran Sahib and Goindwal Sahib
    45 minutes (24.5 km) from Mata Lal Devi Mandir

    In the morning, take a drive to Tarn Taran Sahib, a Sikh pilgrimage site known for its beautiful gurudwara and sarovar. In the afternoon, visit Goindwal Sahib, another important Sikh pilgrimage site and the birthplace of the Sikh tradition of langar. In the evening, return to Amritsar and relax at your hotel.

  7. Day 7: Harike Wetland and Wildlife Sanctuary
    2 hours (58 km) from Goindwal Sahib

    In the morning, take a scenic drive to the Harike Wetland and Wildlife Sanctuary, a beautiful bird sanctuary and wetland area. In the afternoon, go for a relaxing boat ride and spot some of the many species of birds that call this sanctuary home. In the evening, return to Amritsar and enjoy a final dinner at a local restaurant.

Don't miss the chance to try some delicious Amritsari kulcha and chole bhature, two local Punjabi dishes. You can also take a day trip to the nearby city of Wagah and witness the famous border ceremony between India and Pakistan.
