4-Day Adventure Itinerary in Sikkim in July 2023

  1. Day 1: River Rafting at Teesta River
    1 hour (17.5 miles) from Bagdogra Airport

    Start your Sikkim adventure by experiencing the thrill of river rafting at Teesta River. The rapids of the river range from grade 1 to 4, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced rafters. In the morning, you'll be picked up from your hotel in Gangtok and driven to the starting point. After a safety briefing, you'll start your rafting adventure that lasts for about 3 hours. You'll be done by noon and driven back to Gangtok for lunch. Spend the afternoon exploring the local markets and try some local delicacies. In the evening, head to the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology to learn about the rich history and culture of Sikkim.

  2. Day 2: Trek to Goecha La
    4 hours (68.3 miles) from Gangtok

    Day 2 is all about the incredible trek to Goecha La. After an early breakfast, you'll be driven to Yuksom, the starting point of the trek. The trek takes around 10 hours and covers a distance of 14 km. The trail is filled with stunning views of the Himalayas, waterfalls, and forests. You'll stop for lunch mid-way and continue to the Goecha La pass. The view from the top is breathtaking and worth every step of the trek. After spending some time at the top, you'll start descending and reach Yuksom by early evening. Have dinner at the hotel and rest for the night.

  3. Day 3: Paragliding at Gangtok
    2 hours (40.9 miles) from Yuksom

    Start your day with a hearty breakfast and then head to Gangtok for a thrilling paragliding experience. The paragliding site is located in Ranka, 20 minutes from Gangtok. You'll be guided by experienced pilots and soar above the lush green hills and valleys. The entire experience lasts for about an hour. After lunch, visit the Rumtek Monastery, one of the largest and most significant monasteries in Sikkim. Spend the evening at MG Marg, the popular shopping district in Gangtok, and indulge in some shopping and snacking.

  4. Day 4: Day Trip to Nathula Pass
    2 hours (42.5 miles) from Gangtok

    On the final day, take a day trip to Nathula Pass, the scenic mountain pass located on the Indo-China border. You'll need to obtain permits a day prior to the trip due to security reasons. You'll be driven to the pass early in the morning, and the journey takes around 3 hours. The pass offers stunning views of the Himalayas, and you'll be able to see the Chinese border from there. After spending some time at the pass, you'll return to Gangtok and have lunch. Spend the evening at leisure and explore some more local markets.

Recommendations

If you have additional time, consider visiting the Yumthang Valley for some scenic views or the Gurudongmar Lake for some peace and serenity. You can also try some local adventurous activities like mountain biking, bungee jumping, and yak riding. To maximize your fun, try to wake up early and catch the sunrise from one of the many viewpoints in Sikkim. It's a breathtaking experience.
