A 4-Day Relaxing Itinerary in Coorg - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Abbey Falls
    10 minutes (3.5 km) from Madikeri town

    Start your day with a visit to the stunning Abbey Falls. The waterfall cascades down from a height of 70 feet creating a picturesque view. Take a morning stroll to the falls and inhale the fresh misty air. You can also enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls. Afternoon, indulge in a traditional South Indian lunch at one of the nearby restaurants. Spend the evening observing the sunset from the viewpoint near the falls.

  2. Day 2: Dubare Elephant Camp
    1 hour 10 minutes (30 km) from Madikeri town

    Experience the thrill of bathing and feeding the gentle giants of Dubare Elephant Camp in the morning. The camp also offers elephant rides through the forest. Afternoon, enjoy a delicious Coorgi lunch at the camp. Take a relaxing walk along the banks of the river Cauvery or go for a coracle ride. In the evening, head over to Nisargadhama, a nearby island that houses a deer park and a hanging bridge.

  3. Day 3: Mandalpatti Viewpoint
    1 hour 30 minutes (25 km) from Madikeri town

    Embark on a scenic drive to the Mandalpatti viewpoint early in the morning. The drive through the forest is an experience in itself. Once you reach the viewpoint, witness the beauty of the Western Ghats. The vista of the valley, hills and forests is breathtaking. Afternoon, explore the Omkareshwara Temple, known for its unique blend of Islamic and Gothic styles of architecture. Spend the evening at Raja’s Seat, a garden offering a panoramic view of the hills and valleys.

  4. Day 4: Coffee Plantation Tour
    20 minutes (10 km) from Madikeri town

    End your trip with a visit to a coffee plantation. Experience the process of coffee making from bean to brew. Learn about the history of coffee in Coorg and savour different varieties of coffee. Afternoon, visit the Madikeri Fort, a historical landmark of Coorg. The fort houses a museum and a temple. Spend the evening shopping at the local market for souvenirs and spices.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, visit the Tadiyandamol peak, the highest peak in Coorg. The trek through the lush green forests is challenging but rewarding. You can also visit the Tibetan Golden Temple and the Namdroling Monastery. Do not miss out on trying the traditional Coorgi cuisine, especially the Pandi Curry, Akki Roti and Bamboo Shoot Curry.
