Darjeeling in June 2023: A 3-Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Tiger Hill
    25 minutes (6.5 km) from Darjeeling town center

    Morning: Wake up early and head to Tiger Hill to witness the spectacular sunrise over the Himalayas. The panoramic view of the mountains is breathtaking and worth the early wake-up call. Afternoon: After returning from Tiger Hill, head to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute to learn about the history of mountaineering in the Himalayas and see a collection of mountaineering artifacts. Evening: End your day with a visit to the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center, located nearby.   2. Day 2: Darjeeling Himalayan Railway

    Morning: Start your day by taking a ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the "Toy Train". This UNESCO World Heritage Site takes you on a scenic journey through the hills and offers beautiful views of the surrounding tea gardens. Afternoon: After the train ride, visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, located nearby. This park is home to a variety of Himalayan animals, including the rare snow leopard and red panda. Evening: End your day with a visit to the Happy Valley Tea Estate, where you can learn about the tea-making process and sample some of the world-renowned Darjeeling tea.

  3. Day 3: Batasia Loop and Peace Pagoda
    20 minutes (4.8 km) from Darjeeling town center

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Batasia Loop, a spiral railway created to lower the gradient of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The loop offers beautiful views of the mountains and is a great spot for taking photos. Afternoon: After the Batasia Loop, visit the Peace Pagoda, located nearby. This pagoda was built to promote world peace and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Evening: End your day with a walk through the Mall Road, a popular shopping and dining area in Darjeeling. Try some of the local cuisine and pick up some souvenirs to take home with you.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider taking a day trip to the nearby town of Kalimpong to see more of the local culture and handicrafts. You can also take a cable car ride to get a bird's-eye view of the town and surrounding hills. For adventure-seekers, there are also opportunities for trekking and paragliding in the area.
