3-Day Wayanad Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
40 minutes (14.2 km) from Kalpetta

The Edakkal Caves are a fascinating archaeological site that is a must-visit when in Wayanad. It's an uphill climb to reach the caves but the stunning views along the way make it worth the effort. The caves have ancient rock art dating back to the Neolithic era. Spend the morning exploring the caves and admiring the stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Have lunch at the nearby Cafe Robusta before heading to Soochipara Waterfalls. The waterfall has a 3-tiered drop and is surrounded by lush forests and tea plantations. Take a dip in the cool water and relax before heading back to Kalpetta.

  2. Day 2: Chembra Peak
1 hour 15 minutes (27.4 km) from Kalpetta

Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Start the day early to avoid the crowds and make the steep climb to the top. The trek takes around 3 hours round trip. Take a break at the heart-shaped lake on the way up and enjoy the scenery. After descending the peak, head to Pookode Lake, a serene freshwater lake surrounded by forests. Take a pedal boat ride or go for a nature walk around the lake. End the day with a visit to the Lakkidi View Point for a stunning sunset view.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple
1 hour 25 minutes (46.8 km) from Kalpetta

The Thirunelli Temple is an ancient temple located in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains and forests. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is believed to have been built over 1000 years ago. Spend the morning exploring the temple and the nearby Papanashini River. After lunch, head to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary for a jeep safari. The sanctuary is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, and other wildlife. The safari takes around 2 hours and is a great way to experience the natural beauty of Wayanad. End the day with a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India.
