Kedarnath 3-Day Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    Located in the heart of Kedarnath
    10 minutes (0.8 km) from GMVN Kedarnath Tourist Rest House

    Start your day early by visiting the iconic Kedarnath Temple, a historical Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Experience the divinity of the temple while enjoying the scenic mountains surrounding it. Afterward, take a hike to Gandhi Sarovar, a serene lake located 3 km from the temple. In the afternoon, visit the Bhairavnath Temple, which offers an excellent view of the Kedarnath range. End your day by attending the evening aarti at the Kedarnath Temple.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal Lake

    1 hour 20 minutes (9.7 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Start your day early and travel to Vasuki Tal Lake, located amidst the Himalayas. The journey will take around 5 hours, including a 3-hour trek from Kedarnath. The view of the lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains is simply breathtaking. After lunch near the lake, head back to Kedarnath and visit the Shankaracharya Samadhi, a place where the great saint Shankaracharya attained samadhi. Spend the evening shopping in the local markets and enjoy some delicious local cuisine.

  3. Day 3: Sonprayag
    Located 20 km from Kedarnath
    1 hour 15 minutes (27 km) from Vasuki Tal Lake

    Visit Sonprayag, a small town located at the confluence of the rivers Basuki and Mandakini. The town is surrounded by lush green mountains, and a dip in the pristine waters of the river is considered auspicious. Afterward, visit the Triyuginarayan Temple, which is famous for its eternal flame that has been burning for centuries. The temple is also believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. End your day by visiting the Gaurikund Temple and enjoying the beautiful sunset.

Recommendations

If you are interested in trekking and have more time, consider a trek to the Kedartal Lake. It is a 17 km trek from the Kedarnath Temple, and the view of the lake is simply breathtaking. You can also visit the Chopta valley, aka the "Mini Switzerland of India" located 70 km from Kedarnath. You can also indulge in adventure activities like river rafting and camping.
