Two-day Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves

    The Edakkal Caves are situated on the Ambukutty Mala hill and have ancient rock etchings dating back to the Neolithic era. The journey to the caves involves a steep hike up the hill, which takes approximately an hour. The morning is the best time to visit the caves as it can be quite strenuous to climb in the afternoon heat. In the afternoon, you can visit the nearby Soochipara Waterfalls, which are approximately 40 minutes away. The waterfalls are surrounded by lush green forests and are a popular picnic spot. In the evening, you can visit the Chembra Peak, which is around an hour away. It is the highest peak in Wayanad and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 20 minutes (34 miles) from Edakkal Caves

    The Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earthen dam in India and is located in the scenic Banasura hills. It is a popular spot for boating and fishing, and you can also take a trek to the nearby hills. In the afternoon, you can visit the Pookode Lake, which is approximately 40 minutes away. It is a freshwater lake surrounded by green hills and is a popular spot for boating. In the evening, you can visit the Lakkidi Viewpoint, which is around 30 minutes away. It offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and is the perfect spot for watching the sunset.
