4-Day Adventure Itinerary in Waynad, June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    25 minutes (10 miles) from Kalpetta town

    Start your day early with a trek to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Waynad. The hike will take around 3-4 hours, and the view from the top is worth it. Afternoon, head to Pookode Lake, where you can enjoy boating and other activities. In the evening, visit the Edakkal Caves, which will take you back in time with its ancient carvings and paintings.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour (22 miles) from Kalpetta town

    After breakfast, head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India. You can go trekking, boating, and zip-lining here. The view of the surrounding hills and the clear water is breathtaking. In the afternoon, visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, and many other animals. In the evening, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, where you can take a dip in the cool waters.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple and Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 30 minutes (38 miles) from Kalpetta town

    Start your day with a visit to the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is located in the middle of the forest and is surrounded by hills and streams. Afternoon, visit the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a part of the Western Ghats. You can spot elephants, tigers, leopards, and many other animals in their natural habitat. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta town and explore the local markets.

  4. Day 4: Kuruvadweep Island
    1 hour 15 minutes (30 miles) from Kalpetta town

    On your last day, visit the Kuruvadweep Island, which is a group of small islands on the Kabini River. You can take a boat ride and explore the island, which is home to many rare species of birds, orchids, and herbs. Afternoon, visit the Meenmutty Waterfalls, which is a three-tiered waterfall and a popular picnic spot. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta town and enjoy a local meal before departing.

If you have time, you can also visit the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary, which is located in the Brahmagiri Hills. The sanctuary is home to many species of birds and animals. You can also take a side trip to the Kuruva Islands, which is another group of islands on the Kabini River. The islands are known for their dense forests and beautiful rivers.
