Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Gokarna in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Half Moon Beach
    15 minutes (5.5 km) from Gokarna Bus Stand

    Start your day early and head to Half Moon Beach where you can enjoy the calm and serene environment, go for a swim or take a stroll along the shore. You can then dine at any of the shacks on the beach and relish some local delicacies. Spend your afternoon in relaxation mode or take a ferry to Om Beach which is a 20-minute ride. The evening is perfect for some beach hopping. You can head to Paradise Beach, which is 15 minutes by boat and watch a stunning sunset. Alternatively, you can stroll around Gokarna town and try some street food.

  2. Day 2: Mahabaleshwara Temple
    20 minutes (9.3 km) from Half Moon Beach

    Begin your day by heading to Mahabaleshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the most important temples in Gokarna. After spending a spiritual morning, head to the nearby Venkataramana Temple. After lunch, you can explore the Gokarna beach or take a dip in the sea. The evening can be well spent at Kudle Beach, located 10 minutes by rickshaw from the temple. You can enjoy some good food and music while watching the sunset.

  3. Day 3: Mirjan Fort and Yana Caves
    1 hour 20 minutes (45.5 km) from Kudle Beach

    Start your day early and set off to visit the historical Mirjan Fort, located on the banks of River Aghanashini. You can spend the morning exploring the fort and the nearby beach. After having lunch, you can head to the Yana Caves, which takes about an hour to reach. The stunning rock formations and lush green surroundings make for an ideal photo opportunity. You can return to Gokarna by evening and spend the last night exploring the local markets or relax at your hotel.

Recommendations

If time permits, you can visit the Vibhooti Falls which is located about 30 km from Gokarna. Alternatively, the Kumta Beach is a great place for a day trip. If you're in the mood for trekking, the Kumara Parvatha Trek is a great option. To maximize your fun, we suggest you pack sunscreen, hats and comfortable shoes. Do try some local dishes like Neer Dosa, Fish Curry, and Goli Baje. Lastly, bargain while shopping at the local markets for souvenirs.
