Two-Day Nature Itinerary in Philadelphia

  1. Day 1: Wissahickon Valley Park
    20 minutes (8.5 miles) from Center City Philadelphia

    In the morning, hike the trails of Wissahickon Valley Park, a 1,800-acre park with over 50 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Along the way, take in the views of the Wissahickon Creek and explore the Valley Green Inn, a historic restaurant and bar.     In the morning, explore the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge, a 1,000-acre wetland and marsh habitat for over 300 species of birds and other wildlife. Walk the trails, take a guided tour, or rent a kayak to paddle along Darby Creek. In the afternoon, visit the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, a 340-acre nature preserve with hiking trails, an organic farm, and environmental education programs. End your day with a visit to the Philadelphia Zoo, home to over 1,300 animals from around the world, including rare and endangered species.
