3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Kedarnath in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    5 minutes (0.5 km) from Kedarnath

    In the morning, visit the famous Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This ancient temple is nestled amidst the snow-capped Himalayas, and the trek to the temple is a spiritual experience in itself. Spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding nature trails and trekking down to the town of Kedarnath. In the evening, attend the evening aarti at the temple and watch the priests perform the sacred rituals.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
    1 hour 30 minutes (8 km) from Kedarnath

    Embark on an adventurous trek to Vasuki Tal, a high altitude lake situated at 4,135 m above sea level. The trek is challenging, but the stunning views of the Himalayas and the crystal-clear waters of the lake make it all worth it. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake, and spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding glaciers and waterfalls. Return to Kedarnath in the evening for a warm cup of chai and a hearty dinner.

  3. Day 3: Chorabari Glacier
    1 hour (4.5 km) from Kedarnath

    For the ultimate adventure, trek to the Chorabari Glacier, also known as Gandhi Sarovar. This glacier is located at an altitude of 3,900 m and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. The trek is challenging, and you'll need a guide to navigate the tricky terrain. After reaching the glacier, spend some time exploring the area and enjoying a packed lunch. Return to Kedarnath by late afternoon for some relaxation time and dinner.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the nearby town of Guptkashi and the ancient temple of Triyuginarayan. You can also take a side trip to the beautiful Chandrashila Peak. To maximize your fun, make sure to pack comfortable trekking shoes, warm clothes, and a good camera. Don't forget to carry a personal first-aid kit and a water bottle.
