3-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Kolhapur in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahalaxmi Temple
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Kolhapur Railway Station

    Morning: Start the day with the blessings of goddess Ambabai at the Mahalaxmi Temple, which is one of the Shakti Peethas. This temple is a fine example of Chalukya architecture and is adorned with intricate carvings.
    Afternoon: Head to Rankala Lake, which is a popular hangout spot among locals. Take a stroll around the lake, enjoy some street food and try boating.
    Evening: End the day with a visit to the iconic Shalini Palace, where you can learn about the history and culture of Kolhapur. The palace has a museum, a zoo and a park.

  2. Day 2: Panhala Fort
    35 minutes (20.2 km) from Mahalaxmi Temple

    Morning: Take a bus from Kolhapur to Panhala and visit the historic Panhala Fort, which was built in the 12th century. The fort offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley.
    Afternoon: Enjoy a traditional Marathi thali at a local restaurant and try some of the popular Kolhapuri dishes like mutton curry, tambda rassa and pandhra rassa.

  3. Day 3: Jyotiba Temple
    50 minutes (20.5 km) from Panhala Fort

    Morning: Drive to Jyotiba Temple, which is located on top of a hill and offers magnificent views of the surroundings. The temple is dedicated to Lord Jyotiba, who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva.
    Afternoon: Visit the New Palace, which was built in the 19th century and has a beautiful architecture. The palace has a museum that showcases the weapons, armour and costumes of the royal family.
    Evening: End the day with a visit to the Binkhambi Ganesh Mandir, which is located near the New Palace. The temple is famous for its idol of Lord Ganesha, which is made of pure gold.

Kolhapur is also famous for its spicy and flavourful street food like Misal Pav, Vada Pav and Bhel. You should also check out the Gaganbawda ghat, which is a scenic drive through the Western Ghats.
