Thrilling 3-Day Wayanad Adventure Itinerary - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    40 minutes (15.5 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, embark on a 3.5-hour trek to the highest peak in Wayanad, Chembra Peak, and enjoy the picturesque views from the top. In the afternoon, visit the Pookode Lake, a serene freshwater lake surrounded by lush green forests. Take a paddleboat ride and if you're lucky, spot some freshwater fishes. In the evening, visit the Edakkal Caves, which are believed to be 8000 years old, and explore the ancient rock paintings on the walls.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 15 minutes (27.2 miles) from Chembra Peak

    In the morning, head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earth dam in India, and enjoy a scenic boat ride. In the afternoon, visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of animals including elephants, tigers, and leopards. Take a jeep safari and spot some of the animals in their natural habitat. In the evening, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, a three-tiered waterfall cascading from a height of 200 meters.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple
    2 hours 5 minutes (55.8 miles) from Banasura Sagar Dam

    In the morning, visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and known for its beautiful architecture. Take a dip in the nearby Papanasini River, believed to wash away sins. In the afternoon, visit the Kuruva Island, an uninhabited island in the middle of the Kabini River. Take a bamboo raft ride and explore the island's diverse flora and fauna. In the evening, visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to elephants, deer, monkeys, and various bird species.

If you have an extra day, consider visiting the Lakkidi View Point, which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. You can also visit the Meenmutty Waterfalls, which involves a 2-km trek through the forest. If you're looking for a side trip, visit the nearby town of Sultan Bathery, which has a rich historical past and is home to the Jain Temple, which is believed to be 1000 years old.
