3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    25 minutes (9.8 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, embark on a 4.5 km trek to the top of the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek takes approximately 3 hours and promises stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. In the afternoon, head to the Soochipara Waterfalls, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim or simply take in the beauty of the falls. In the evening, visit the Edakkal Caves, which feature ancient petroglyphs dating back to the Neolithic era.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam and Meenmutty Falls
    1 hour 5 minutes (22.3 miles) from Chembra Peak

    Start your day early with a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. Enjoy a leisurely boat ride and marvel at the lush greenery surrounding the lake. In the afternoon, head to the Meenmutty Falls, a three-tiered waterfall nestled in the heart of the forest. The trek to the falls is around 2 km and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. In the evening, visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and spot some of the rare species of flora and fauna that call it home.

  3. Day 3: Kuruva Island and Thirunelli Temple
    1 hour 15 minutes (31.5 miles) from Meenmutty Falls

    Begin your day with a visit to Kuruva Island, a serene and picturesque island on the Kabini River. The island is home to a unique ecosystem with numerous species of flora and fauna. After your visit, head to the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is located amidst the Brahmagiri hills and is surrounded by lush greenery. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing ayurvedic massage at one of the many spas in the area.

If you are looking for more adventure, consider a visit to the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary, where you can spot rare species of birds. Alternatively, you could also go on a night safari at the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. For those interested in history and culture, a visit to the Wayanad Heritage Museum is highly recommended. If you have time, consider a side trip to the nearby towns of Ooty or Coorg. To make the most of your trip, be sure to carry comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
