Begin your morning with a visit to the famous Kedarnath Temple which is one of the four pilgrimage sites in India's Char Dham yatra. Located at an altitude of 3,583m, it is believed that the temple was built by the Pandavas and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. After seeking blessings at the temple, take a stroll around the temple complex and enjoy the scenic views of snow-capped mountains and the Mandakini River. In the afternoon, hike up to the Gandhi Sarovar, a picturesque lake which is located 2 km above Kedarnath. In the evening, relax at your hotel and enjoy local tea and snacks.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
9.6 km (5 hours) from Kedarnath Temple

Start your day early and drive to Sonprayag from where the trek to Vasuki Tal begins. This high altitude lake is located at an altitude of 4,150m and is surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks. The trek is challenging but it offers breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys. On the way, stop by Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and spot some rare and endangered species of animals and birds. After spending a few hours at the lake, start your descent back to Sonprayag and drive back to your hotel in Kedarnath.

Today, embark on a trek to another high altitude lake called Chorabari Tal, also known as Gandhi Sarovar. The trek starts from Kedarnath Temple and takes you through dense forests, rocky terrain and gushing streams. The lake is located at an altitude of 3,900m and is surrounded by beautiful alpine meadows and snow-capped peaks. Spend some time at the lake, enjoy a packed lunch and start your descent back to Kedarnath in the afternoon. In the evening, you can explore the local market and buy some souvenirs.

  4. Day 4: Triyuginarayan Temple
11.5 km (1 hour 20 minutes) from Kedarnath Temple

On your last day in Kedarnath, visit the ancient Triyuginarayan Temple which is located in the nearby town of Triyuginarayan. It is believed that Lord Shiva and Parvati got married at this temple and the eternal flame burning here is said to be a witness to their marriage. The temple is surrounded by lush green meadows, snow-capped mountains and has a serene atmosphere. You can also visit the nearby village and interact with the locals to learn about their culture and way of life. In the afternoon, drive back to Kedarnath and depart for your journey back home.

Recommendations

Apart from the above-mentioned places, you can also visit the Bhairavnath Temple, located about 1.5 km from Kedarnath Temple. Another popular trekking route is the Kedarnath to Tungnath and Chandrashila trek, which offers stunning views of the Himalayas. If you have more time, you can also plan a visit to the nearby towns of Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, which are part of the Char Dham yatra. To make the most of your trip, it is recommended to carry comfortable hiking shoes, warm clothes, sunscreen, a first-aid kit and a water bottle.
