Sikkim Nature Itinerary in December 2023

  1. Day 1: Gangtok
    30 minutes (21.6 km) from Pakyong Airport

    Start the day at Enchey Monastery for morning prayers, followed by a visit to the picturesque Banjhakri Falls. In the afternoon, explore the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology to learn about the region's history and culture. After dinner, stroll through the bustling MG Marg for some souvenir shopping.

  2. Day 2: Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass
    2 hours (42.5 km) from Gangtok

    Head to Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake surrounded by rugged mountains, and enjoy a yak ride or a hot bowl of thukpa by the lake. After lunch, drive up to Nathula Pass for stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas. Return to Gangtok for a relaxing evening.

  3. Day 3: Pelling
    4.5 hours (117 km) from Gangtok

    Drive to Pelling and visit the Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest in Sikkim. Follow it up with a visit to the Rabdentse Ruins, the former capital of the Kingdom of Sikkim.     Visit the serene Tashiding Monastery that dates back to the 17th century. Next, hike to Dubdi Monastery, the oldest in Sikkim, and stop for a picnic lunch en route. Finally, explore the quaint village of Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim, and visit the coronation throne.

  5. Day 5: Lachung
    6 hours (125 km) from Yuksom

    Drive to Lachung, a picturesque mountain village surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Take a dip in the Yumthang Hot Springs, followed by a visit to the Yumthang Valley, also known as the Valley of Flowers. End the day with a bonfire and some hot momos.

  6. Day 6: Gurudongmar Lake
    5 hours (157 km) from Lachung

    Wake up early and drive to Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world at an altitude of 17,800 feet. Stop for breakfast at Thangu Valley and enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas. Return to Lachung for a leisurely evening.

  7. Day 7: Gangtok
    6 hours (169 km) from Lachung

    Drive back to Gangtok and take a cable car ride to the towering Hanuman Tok for a panoramic view of the city. Visit the Himalayan Zoological Park to see rare animals like the red panda and the snow leopard. End the trip with a visit to the awe-inspiring Rumtek Monastery.
