Start your first day in Kedarnath with a visit to the holy Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple is located in the midst of the majestic Himalayan ranges and is surrounded by snowcapped peaks, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers. The temple can be reached by trekking for approximately 14 km from Gaurikund, which is the base point for the trek. The trek is challenging, but the breathtaking views of the mountains and the sound of the Mandakini River flowing alongside the trail make it worth the effort.
Embark on a trek to Vasuki Tal, a high altitude lake surrounded by snowcapped mountains and lush green meadows. The trek starts from Kedarnath Temple and takes approximately 4 hours to reach the lake. En route, you will come across various waterfalls, streams and beautiful meadows. The lake is located at an altitude of 14,200 ft and is considered to be one of the most beautiful high altitude lakes in the region. Spend some time at the lake, admiring the beauty of the surroundings before heading back to Kedarnath.
On your final day in Kedarnath, take a trip to Sonprayag, a picturesque town located at the confluence of two rivers, Mandakini and Basuki. The town is surrounded by beautiful mountains and has several natural hot water springs which are believed to have medicinal properties. Take a dip in the hot water springs and relax in the lap of nature. You can also visit the nearby Guptkashi Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located approximately 6 km from Sonprayag.
If you have an extra day, you can visit the nearby Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to various species of flora and fauna, including the Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, musk deer and more.
