Exploring Wayanad on a Shoestring Budget in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Kuruva Island
    30 minutes (11.8 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit Kuruva Island, a serene and picturesque river island that is home to various species of birds, orchids and herbs. Take a guided tour of the island and explore the natural beauty of the place. Have a picnic lunch by the river. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Later, head to Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India, and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding hills and reservoir.

  2. Day 2: Edakkal Caves
    1 hour 15 minutes (28.8 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day early and head to Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient cave paintings and inscriptions dating back to the Stone Age. Take a guided tour and learn about the history and significance of the place. Have a light snack at the nearby restaurant.
