3-Day Darjeeling Itinerary in January 2024

  1. Day 1: Tiger Hill Sunrise
    20 minutes (5 miles) from Darjeeling town center

    Before the sun rises, head to the Tiger Hill viewpoint for the most breathtaking sunrise view of Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest. Sip on a hot cup of Darjeeling tea while you wait for the first rays of sunlight to hit the Himalayan range. After sunrise, visit the Ghoom Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the area, and learn about Buddhist culture and history. In the afternoon, take a stroll around the Darjeeling Mall, a large public square, and enjoy the scenic views of the mountains. In the evening, head to the Himalayan Tibet Museum to learn more about the local culture and history.

  2. Day 2: Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and Tea Plantations
    15 minutes (3.5 miles) from Darjeeling town center

    Ride the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the "Toy Train," through the beautiful tea plantations of Darjeeling. Stop at the Happy Valley Tea Estate to see how tea is grown, harvested, and processed. Take a guided tour and enjoy a tea tasting session. In the afternoon, visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and see rare animals such as the red panda and the snow leopard. Finish off the day with a visit to the Japanese Peace Pagoda, a beautiful monument that offers a panoramic view of the town.

  3. Day 3: Mirik Lake and Pashupati Market
    1 hour 30 minutes (35 miles) from Darjeeling town center

    Take a scenic drive to Mirik Lake, a picturesque lake surrounded by hills and forests. Go boating on the lake and enjoy the serene environment. After lunch, head to the Pashupati Market, located on the India-Nepal border. Shop for souvenirs, clothes, and local handicrafts. End the day with a visit to St. Andrew's Church, a beautiful Gothic-style church that offers a peaceful atmosphere.

Don't miss out on the Singalila National Park, a large protected area that offers stunning views of the Himalayan peaks and diverse flora and fauna.
