Start your trip in the heart of Lisbon by exploring the city's oldest district, Alfama. As you navigate the narrow streets, take in the stunning views of the Tagus River and visit the historic Sé Cathedral. Enjoy traditional Portuguese cuisine at a typical "tascas" and listen to "Fado," Portuguese traditional music.
Visit the historic Belém neighborhood and its main attractions, such as the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Tower, and the Discoveries Monument. Taste the famous Pastéis de Belém (Portuguese custard tarts) at the Antiga Confeitaria de Belém, which has been serving them since 1837.
Spend your third day exploring the charming neighborhoods of Chiado and Bairro Alto. Go shopping in some of the city's most elegant shops, visit the iconic Santa Justa Lift, and stop at "Praça do Comércio" (Commerce Square), one of Lisbon's grandest plazas. End your day watching a beautiful sunset at the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara.
On your last day, take a day trip to the fairytale-like town of Sintra. Explore the stunning Pena Palace, walk through the lush and magical gardens of the Quinta da Regaleira, and visit the Castle of the Moors with its stunning panoramic views. Finally, relax and indulge in Sintra's traditional sweets, such as "Travesseiros" and "Queijadas de Sintra."
Most of the attractions are in walking distance from each other, but you can also use the city's public transportation system such as the metro, buses, and trams. Alternatively, you can use taxis or Uber to save time, but be aware of traffic congestion. The Viva Viagem card (€0.50) is a rechargeable card that you can use across all public transportation systems, and a 24-hour pass costs €6.40.
If you have more time, consider visiting the beautiful seaside town of Cascais and the cosmopolitan area of Parque das Nações. Additionally, explore the local markets for traditional handmade crafts and enjoy a sunset cruise along the Tagus River. If you have less time, choose between Alfama and Belém, and skip the day trip to Sintra or spend less time in each attraction.
Lisbon's main airport is Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS), which is located just 7 km from the city center. The airport has a metro station connecting you to the city for €1.50. Alternatively, you can take a taxi for around €15 or use the airport shuttle bus service AeroBus for €4 per person.
