Cultural Immersion in Kedarnath: A 2-Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
10 minutes (4.4 km) from Kedarnath Helipad

The Kedarnath Temple is a prominent pilgrimage site in Hinduism that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan range. In the morning, you can start with the Darshan at the temple and witness the morning aarti. The temple is closed from 3 PM to 5 PM, so you can take a break and visit local shops and eateries. In the evening, you can attend the evening aarti at the temple, which is a beautiful sight to behold.

  2. Day 2: Gaurikund and Gandhi Sarovar
1 hour (30 km) from Kedarnath Temple

Gaurikund is a small town located at the base of the Kedarnath temple and is named after Goddess Parvati, who is also known as Gauri. You can take a dip in the hot water Kund and visit the Gauri Devi Temple here. A short trek from Gaurikund will take you to Gandhi Sarovar, a serene lake named after Mahatma Gandhi. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers a peaceful and scenic view. In the evening, you can return to Kedarnath and relax at your hotel or explore local restaurants.

Recommendations

You can also visit Vasuki Tal and Bhairavnath Temple, which are located at a distance of 7 km and 2.5 km, respectively, from Kedarnath. If you have some extra time, you can also take a day trip to Badrinath Temple, which is a 3-hour drive from Kedarnath. Make sure to carry warm clothing as the temperature can drop drastically in the evening. You can also maximize your fun by trying local delicacies such as Kachmauli, Aloo ke Gutke, and Kafuli. Lastly, don't forget to carry a camera to capture the breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
